Fixed Braces in Dublin

Our fixed braces options are affordable, safe, and extremely effective at transforming smiles – they’re a classic teeth straightening solution! Learn more about our braces for all ages here at Dublin Orthodontist.

What are Fixed Braces?

We offer two types of braces at Dublin Orthodontist: traditional metal braces and ceramic braces, also called clear braces. Both systems straighten your teeth by using brackets (affixed to the front of the tooth) and metal archwires that run through the brackets, gradually pushing teeth into their desired position. Traditional braces use metal brackets and metal archwires, while ceramic braces use extremely durable, tooth-coloured brackets that are designed to blend in with the appearance of your teeth.

Are Braces Right For You?

Fixed braces have been one of the most commonly used teeth straightening solutions for many years – and for good reason. They are extremely durable, and efficient and can solve most orthodontic issues. That being said, traditional metal braces are better suited for more severe cases, whereas clear ceramic braces are a discreet way to treat minor misalignments.

Coupled with our 3D imaging technology, we are able to customise all braces treatments to each patient’s specific needs. This allows us to deliver exceptional results in less time than may have been required in the past. What’s more, they are safe for patients of all ages, including those who have previously received orthodontic treatment, and are our most affordable orthodontic solution!

FAQs about braces in Dublin

What are ceramic or clear braces?

Ceramic braces go by multiple names: ceramic braces, invisible braces, clear braces, or white braces. However, these are all the same orthodontic solution, made of ceramic brackets and metal archwires. Like traditional braces, ceramic braces efficiently and comfortably guide your teeth into their proper alignment. Many people find the clear ceramic material to be smoother on the gums. Best of all, the clear material makes them virtually invisible, so they don’t get in the way of your day-to-day life.

Clear, or ceramic braces, are becoming increasingly popular, but they may not be the right choice for everyone. It is important to remember that metal braces are often more resilient to more pressure, which can be required for more severe misalignment cases. Therefore, these braces may not be the most suitable if this is what you need. However, they are often ideal for most patients. A good candidate for clear or white braces is typically over 12 years old, has healthy teeth and gums, and requires only minor corrections to their bite. If you are considering clear or white braces, you must consult a Specialist for a diagnosis and custom treatment plan.

The quick answer is no, braces do not hurt. However, there may be some mild discomfort after you have been fitted with braces or after a checkup appointment with your Specialist. This is very manageable and usually goes away after a day or two. Many patients find ceramic braces slightly more comfortable because they are made from a smoother, clear ceramic metal. However, no braces or brackets should ever poke, stab, or hurt you. If you are experiencing pain, call our orthodontic clinic in Dublin to talk to a helpful member of our team.

While both metal and ceramic braces are very durable, they can occasionally break. The important thing is to remain calm and assess the situation. Identify what piece and where the breakage occurred. Then, cover the affected area with orthodontic wax to ensure the most comfort, and call our braces clinic in Dublin. Most brackets and wires can be easily repaired in our office, but many do not even require an immediate visit to our clinic. Our team will be able to assist you over the phone and advise you on how to proceed.
